The Cordero Digest 2022-23
Welcome back students, parents, guardians and families!
We hope that your summer was restful. The first day of school is Thursday, September 8th. I am energized and expectant of the great things that will happen in the 2022-23 school year. Below are some items to help inform you of our beginning procedures and expectations for this school year. Please read them carefully to prevent confusion as some procedures have changed from last year.
Attendance
Being punctual and present are core responsibilities of parents and students. The JCPS Student Code of Conduct and promotional policy clearly lay out maximum absences that may prevent promotion. Lateness and Absences will be considered unexcused without appropriate documentation submitted to Ms. Coleman (dcoleman@jcboe.org) in the attendance office (109W). All excused absences and the documentation needed is explicitly defined in the JCPS Student Code of Conduct. Parent notes will inform us of absence but will not excuse it. Students who are on open enrollment could lose their open enrollment status due to poor attendance and punctuality.
Please note that per the NJDOE, students must be in school for at least four hours in order to count as a full day present.

Please note, if a student is taken out for an appointment they cannot return for the rest of the day.

Visitors to the building must make an appointment. All visitors to the school must enter through the metal detector at the main entrance on Erie St. and sign in at the security desk. Important Updates to School Breakfast & Lunch

However, lunch is not free unless your child qualifies. To qualify, you must complete a lunch application. The link to the application is above. We hope every family can complete one. The more applications completed, the more likely we’d get more funding.
Lunch costs $3 for those who do not qualify.

Students may bring in lunch from home if they prefer not to have school lunch.
